More modeling and documentation tips from a SketchUp guru

August 22, 2019 Matt Robison

The rumors are true… we have a brand new set of workflow videos from Nick Sonder! Recently, we were lucky enough to visit Nick’s Truckee, CA studio to get another glimpse inside his SketchUp and LayOut process for creating full sets of beautiful, detailed construction documents.

Save for a couple of rendering extensions, Nick uses all native tools. (I know what you’re thinking: “But I can’t live without my extensions!!”). Check out the new videos to catch up on what’s new in his workflow, including template files, line work and grid lines, and contractor-friendly details.

There's certainly some wizardry going on when Nick uses SketchUp, but his work always reflects the thoughts of a construction-minded maestro. We visited a couple contractors in the field, and after flipping past a few pages of 2D drawings, they always ended up poring over Nick’s 3D perspectives and details. It just goes to show: you can’t build without 2D drawings, but you probably shouldn’t without 3D ones too.
