Jacob’s Wish

Jacob is a 15 year-old from Hutto, Texas who enjoys robotics, computers, and video games. He is also in the Make-A-Wish program. For those of you who have not heard of Make-A-Wish, it’s an organization that grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Jacob has a creative mind and when asked what he would wish for, if he could have anything, he said that he wanted to 3D print designs! So the Make-A-Wish folks granted him a brand spankin’ new laptop and MakerBot 3D printer!

It wasn’t long before the wish-granters at Make-A-Wish reached out and asked whether our SketchUp team would help make Jacob’s wish come true by providing the software to help make his ideas real! We think SketchUp and 3D printing go together like peanut butter and jelly, so we were happy to be part of Jacob’s wish.

If you ask any 15-year-old to make a wish, I doubt many would be inclined to ask for a 3D Printer over a playstation, or Jet Ski. But that is what Jacob wished for: to explore new dimensions in technology, ingenuity and creativity. This kid is ahead of the curve! On the day of his wish, Jacob received a new laptop and MakerBot 3D printer, and a SketchUp Pro license to sync the two together. We also sent him some SketchUp goodies we thought he would enjoy (our famous, ultra-classic SketchUp socks and a 3D-printed glider we love to fling around our office).

We were delighted that Jacob has the same passion for creativity, geeking out and 3D Printing like us here at HQ. He’s part of the team now, and we hope he has fun with his new toys tools!
